Pugin in Ramsgate

10.30am to 5pm. A visit to the recently restored St Augustine’s Church and Pugin’s house, the Grange led by Dr Rory O’Donnell, with the help of Nick Dermott, Chairman, and Catriona Blaker, Trustee, the Pugin Society.

AW and EW Pugin made their church (1844-1852 and later) house and studios the locus gothicus of the artistic and religious thrust they gave the Gothic Revival. The reopening of Pugin’s St Augustine’s marks a conservation triumph by the parish and archdiocese of Southwark, following on works to the Grange (1843) and St Edward’s (1848) by the Landmark Trust, We also visit the Cartoon Room (c1850) and the Monastery (EW Pugin, 1862).  Meet at Ramsgate railway station (the 09.09 train from London St Pancras arrives at 10.27). £55. including buffet lunch and tea.
