East London council takes steps to protect the Light Bar
Thursday 29 January 2009: Hackney council has voted to include the popular Light Bar inside the boundaries of its Shoreditch conservation area. The decision is crucial as it gives this attractive and historically significant Victorian building greater protection from demolition.
Premiership football club puts historic buildings at risk
Wednesday 28 January 2009: Tottenham Hotspur Football club is planning a new stadium for its White Hart lane site. The vast twenty-acre development includes a sixty thousand capacity stadium, new offices, five hundred new homes, a museum and a supermarket. It also includes the demolition of a number of historically interesting buildings.
Demolition risk for Nottingham’s historic sports hall
Monday 19 January 2009: Three possible designs for the redevelopment of Nottingham's Victoria Baths were put on show for the public earlier this month. None of the options make provision for a sports hall at the site and the Victorian Society is concerned that the future of the striking hall is far from secure.
