The British architect, Josiah Conder, is still considered to be ‘the father of Japanese modern architecture’ and his statue can be seen on the University of Tokyo campus. In the final lecture of the series, Neil Jackson will examine the role played by Conder in the introduction of Western architecture and of architectural education to Meiji Japan.
