2015 Visits to St Mary’s Church, Bourne Street, Chelsea Barracks Chapel and St Barnabas Church

Wednesday 17 June 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Price for single attendee: £18.00

Led by Ken Powell, we begin our summer evening visit at St Mary’s, Bourne Street, a short walk from Sloane Square - a simple 1870s mission church strikingly enlarged and enriched between the wars, notably with a major addition by HS Goodhart-Rendel, to become a renowned and richly furnished Anglo-Catholic shrine. We go on to the Chelsea Barracks site to visit the former chapel, the only survivor of the Victorian barracks (demolished in the 1950s) and notable for its series of memorial tablets to former Guards. The evening ends at St Barnabas, Pimlico, a pioneer Anglo-Catholic church, completed in 1850 but subsequently enriched with work by Bodley, Kempe and Comper - a Gothic Revival treasure house forming part of a complex with the adjacent clergy house and school. Meet at St Mary’s Church, 30 Bourne Street, London SW1W 8JJ. Tube: Sloane Square. £18. Booking required.*
