Walk: West Bromwich Guided Walk led by Andy Foster

West Bromwich Guided Walk
Wednesday 11th March 2026, meeting at 10:45 a.m.
Led by Andy Foster

This tour will take us down West Bromwich High Street, the longest one in the Black Country, and along neighbouring streets. The walk will be led by Andy Foster and starts at 10.45 a.m.

We will meet by the Hospital in Grange Rd (very near Lodge Road Metro Station). Exit the station by the stairs and turn right. Our meeting place is about a 2-minute walk. Edward Street car park is also opposite, at the back of the Town Hall. We will look at the exteriors of the former West Bromwich Institute (1884, Wood & Kendrick) as well as the former Memorial School of Art (also by Wood & Kendrick) and the Billard Hall, before going into St Michael and the Holy Angels Catholic Church, (Grade II, 1876-1877, Dunn and Hanson). We will then walk on to go inside the 1907 Carnegie Library and the adjacent Town Hall (Grade II, 1874-5, Alexander & Henman). Renovation work here was awarded our Group’s 2024 Conservation Award.

A buffet lunch will be set out in the former Council Chamber. After looking at several rooms, we will go to see the exterior of the Old Vicarage of the former Christ Church, (1891, Wood & Kendrick), and the former Church Hall and curate’s houses.
The walk will finish by taking the Metro for one stop to see the Kenrick Factory.
