Sketching Evening: Cannon Bridge House Rooftop Led by Bendict O’Looney

Inspired by the Victorian passion for sketching towns & cities, this is the first of a series of drawing workshops planned looking at the townscape of London and further afield.

This first session is a visit to the spectacular roof garden above Cannon Street Station, beside the London headquarters of Historic England. From here there is a wide panoramic view of the Thames, featuring the City, Bankside, with the Edwardian Southwark Bridge in the foreground, the last work of Sir Ernest George RA c. 1911.

Our sketching spot is situated between the (mighty) Italianate towers of the Victorian Cannon Street Station (built by the South Eastern Railway, 1862 Sir John Hawkshaw with the architectural input of John Wolfe-Barry). The workshop is led by the award winning architect and sketching teacher Benedict O’Looney. He is an architect, member of the Victorian Society Southern Building Committee, and a keen architectural draftsman. Benedict has taught architecture history and townscape sketching at the Architectural Association, The University of Kent, New York University’s London programme and Sir John Soane’s Museum.
