Government launches consultation to stop the demolition of unlisted historic buildings under permitted development rights

The consultation we were promised at the height of our campaigning in 2023 to stop the demolition of unlisted historic buildings under permitted development rights is underway.

This is a crucial consultation and could lead to many buildings that are valued by local communities being saved and sensitively reused. The alternative is a continuation of the dreadful cycle of demolition followed by rebuild.

We encourage everyone to participate in this consultation which lasts for 8 weeks from 13 February 2024 to 9 April 2024. Read more and have your say here.

We offer our heartfelt thanks to Baroness Andrews, Lord Carrington and Lord Shipley who have been integral in supporting us in bringing about this consultation. We also thank Lord Parkinson for understanding the benefits bringing an end to this permitted development right could make.
