Join the West Yorkshire Regional Group on a guided tour of Sowerby Bridge.
Meeting at ‘Fire & Water’, 52, Wharf Street, Sowerby Bridge, HX6 2AE at 2.00pm on Saturday 11th July for a tour, then continuing on a guided walk through the riverside mills district, reaching the towns canal basin at around 4.30pm.
The ‘Fire & Water’ site consists of the former council offices (c1877), baths (c1877) and fire station (1906) which replaced a previous fire station of c1866. By 2011 all of these buildings were disused and semi-derelict. F&W (a non-for-profit community association), has taken ownership of these buildings and carried out a significant rescue project. The long term aim is to develop an exciting and creative hub, embracing cultural, educational and economic activities to revitalise the historic centre of Sowerby Bridge.
After time at F&W, the walk will lead down Old Cawsey and through the mill yards (now all converted into apartments), continuing along Back Wharf Street, crossing the canal and continuing along Old Cawsey to Canal Wharf.
