The South Wales Group is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024.  The group formed in 1974 because of the threats to the Grade I animal wall at Cardiff Castle, the Park Hotel (Park Place), and the redevelopment of the lower end of Cathedral Road.

Over the intervening decades the South Wales Group has run a very lively programme of events, visits, talks and study days throughout Wales and beyond, that has been well supported. We have studied everything from the development of Spa towns to industrial settlements, including grand houses, churches, chapels, industry, canals, ports, colleges to the work of great individual architects and engineers.

Covid has left the Group in need of new members, and there is room to join the committee to reinvigorate this long lived Group. The Group is especially interested in Young Victorians working in, or appreciating, the built environment and those who want to campaign to save endangered Welsh Victorian and Edwardian heritage. New members are welcome especially those with an interest in helping run events including walks, talks and online events
