Semicentenary Commemorative Items

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Birmingham & West Midlands Group, on the 19th January 1967, we commissioned two items to celebrate this milestone, which are still available to purchase.

Semicentenary Commemorative Items – Tankard

Tankard

Created by Heraldic Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, the tankard is made from English Fine Bone China and features an engraving of the Grand Hotel in Birmingham, which we were instrumental in saving from destruction. After a £7,500,000 conservation project, by the owners, Hortons’ Estate Limited, the façade has now been restored and received our 2015 Conservation Award in acknowledgment of this.

The half-pint tankard is 3¾” (95 mm) high and 3 ½” (90mm) in diameter.

It is available to buy at a cost of £10.00 (£15.00 in 2017, but now reduced) and can be posted at an additional cost of £3.00, but is available at all of our meetings.

To purchase by post, please download and complete the Tankard Order Form.

Tea Towel

Our tea towel is made by Countryside Art from Spilsby in Lincolnshire. It is printed in The Victorian Society red on 100% English cotton.

Based on an original design by Sutton Webster, the towel features prominent Victorian buildings in Birmingham, including the Town Hall, Curzon Street Railway Station, St Chad’s Cathedral, The Union Club, School of Art, Victoria Law Courts, Spring Hill Library and the Eagle Insurance building in Colmore Row. The former Head Post Office in Victoria Square, Birmingham forms the centrepiece of the design; this neing another building which the Society was instrumental in saving from destruction in the early 1980s.

It is available to buy at a cost of £5.00 and can be posted at an additional cost of £2.00, but is available at all of our meetings throughout 2017.

To purchase by post, please download and complete the Towel Order Form.
