Kate Martyn becomes Manchester Regional Group Chair

Kate Martyn

The Victorian Society is delighted to welcome Kate Martyn to the role of Chair of our Manchester Regional Group.

Kate moved to Manchester in 2016 to set up Donald Insall’s Manchester studio and the northern heritage consultancy team. She works across the region with a particular focus on Victorian civic and industrial architecture and the role the built environment has to play in people’s identity and as a driver for regeneration and placemaking.

Kate began her career as a Graduate Conservation Officer at Westminster City Council progressing to be become a Senior Design and Conservation Officer before joining Insall’s London studio. In these roles she has advised on numerous high-profile schemes including the adaptive reuse of the Old War Office, revitalisation of Rochdale Town Hall and the John Ryland’s Library ‘Next Chapter’ project alongside many smaller scale projects aimed at the conservation and sensitive adaption of historic buildings and townscapes. Kate has a degree in Architectural Studies and a MSc in Historic Conservation; she is a full member of the IHBC, a trustee of the Greater Manchester Building Preservation, sits on the Places Matter Design Review Panel and the Manchester Heritage Panel.

Kate Martyn, Chair of the Society’s Manchester Regional Group, said, “I am really excited to contribute to the successful events calendar that the group have built whilst looking forward to the future and exploring how the group can help to support the next generation’s engagement with the values of the Society. I’d love to hear from you if you would like to contribute!”
