The Birmingham & West Midlands Group is lucky to have a paid part time Conservation Adviser funded by the Mary Heath Trust. Tim Bridges has been our Conservation Adviser since October 2006.

Tim is originally from Warwickshire and went to school in Worcester. After studying history at Exeter & medieval studies at York Universities, he returned to Worcester to work at the City Museum for 22 years first as Keeper of Archaeology and then as Collections Manager.

Tim has a keen interest in the architectural history of Midland buildings, and churches in particular. Alongside his work with the Society, he lectures and leads guided visits around local churches including those of the 19th and 20th centuries, and has published books on the churches of Worcestershire and the Black Country.

He is also Chair of the Worcestershire and Dudley Historic Churches Trust. Tim serves on the Advisory Committees of both the Dioceses of Worcester and Birmingham, as well as Hereford Diocese where Tim worked as part time Church Buildings Support Officer from 2011 to 2021. He is also currently a member of the Fabric Advisory Committee for Lichfield Cathedral.

In November 2024 he was admitted as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
